Im just about to turn 15, and im just getting started in this. I love doing it and i have gone from completely terrible to a decent level in just about a week. I take a fly tying class at a local sportsmans club, with a few highly eperianced fly? tiers, a i have learned a good bit, but we only have it once a week, and only tie one type a fly each time. this is very helpfull, thank you very much.

this has been my second attempt at tying a fly, it was a smashing success, I bought a starter kit that had a book with it, but that was not very helpfull, so I tried to just wing it...lol it didnt turn out horrible, but certainly not as well as this one has, thank you? very much for this and i will be watching, and learning more.

I have found it at a number of fly shops. The last batch at McClellens in Fayetteville, Arkansas. You can also find it at some online stores. You might check out Hook & Hackle or Feathercraft to see if they have it. Since you don't use much per fly, one package lasts? a very long time.

Thanks for the kind words. To make a beadhead version, use a longer hook and place the bead on the? hook first. Don't use glue, the bead will fit nicely against the hook eye. Then complete the fly or even consider making a soft hackle version of the fly. You can also force the bead back over the final thread wraps by restarting your thread at the hook eye and using the thread to push the bead back. Not necessary but can be a nice touch. Good Luck.

Use whatever copper you have. The size of the wire should be proportional to the size of the fly you're tying, but use? what you can get. A great source of copper wire is an old lamp cord. Strip out the wire from the cord and you'll have about 5o pieces of copper wire that you can use for tying.

Thanks for the video. To reinforce the peacock hearl, you may also just continue wire from abdomen through thorax. When I was a commercial tyer,? that's how I did it. Never used sticky-back taper, but really like the smooth transition it makes from abdomen to thorax. All best.

Using a curved? nymph or scud hook should be just fine. It gives a slightly different appearance but that's not always bad. You can also try some soft hackle versions and I've even tied a foam backed emerger pattern in the PTN. Unless you're trying to be true to a certain pattern, there's really no 'correct' way to tie a fly. If it catches fish, it works.

Hi vicweb1978, What I do which I feel makes tying the tail in easier is to tye the tail fibres in with a couple of turns down the shank onto a bare hook so when you lift the tail and start to figure-of-eight through them they should separate? much easier. I also try not to stop while I'm doing this for if you pause at any point there's a chance they will want to go their own way..I'm sure you'll master it in no time.. All the best Davie

This is a true art in it's self i have just mastered fly casting,well the fly land on the water now and not in the trees.I have been getting grayling and wild brown trout so i will 100% be tieing some of these flys.I was wanting to ask if there is a immatation for a Pedagree chum mixer for carp fishing one that will stay a float for some time.I have been useing cork ball's to some sucess but i feel something a little lighter would? give better presentation.

It sounds like you may need a new gi. The best way? to check would be (1) to ask the lead instructor in your dojo, and, (2) if you are a competitor, use a sokuteiki, a measuring device endorsed by the IJF, to check the various measurments of your sleeves, pants, gi length, etc. I have another youtube video on this which you can find using term sokuteiki.

@senseishin.Sensei, actually initially my gi was a bit big for me and I was told that if I wash it with hot water,it would shrink.Since it was a bit big ,I washed it in hot water but I realized it shrank a bit more than I wanted.Now the sleeves are a bit shorter than? normal and the bottom part is shorter.Today,in the practice I noticed that others' gi longer below the belt than mine. Maybe thats why grips during the throws cause gi's bottom part come out of belt so easily.Should I buy a new one.

If you get super glue/varnish/head cement in the eye of the? hook, just clear it (before it dries) using a dubbing needle, pin or scrap bit of fine wire. Some like to pass a fine hackle through the eye, which will soak up any excess varnish etc..

Hi Dave Watching you tying flys brings back happy memories of watching my grandad tying ready for a great fly fishing session down at chalk springs in Arundel West Sussex. Mr. Cammis: I am indeed flattered to get a personal response. I did "tackle" tying this particular pattern after watching your video a few times and getting my gear together and organized. This past Sunday I was able to catch two very nice blue gills from some flooded weeds, as well as the back of my right ear. (I was a bit excited about catching a fish on my own fly and fumbled my cast!) ? I always mash the barbs, though, so both fish and I were easily released. Thanks again.

Hi, Davie! I,m from Lithuania (neighbour country of Poland) and this video is absolutely super! I`m tying and fishing grayling with the same nymphs, but i didn`t thought how easy it is tyed. Thank you a lot! I would like to ask a question if? i can. For legs imitation i`m using a cock feather without fibers on one side of the feather and i do a couple of wraps. @FishinFool513 Hi i would check your local wallmart. I started out on a shakespear that? i bought at wallmart for twenty dollars and it worked just fine for me. Its good to know wrether your gonna stick with it before you go out and buy your more expensive rods. Hope that helps.

- I bought my son an outfit (rod, reel, line) from BassPro a few years ago on sale for under a $100. You might check at Gander Mtn. if you have one - I've seen some good prices on basic outfits there. You might check with your local fly club if you? have one - they can turn you on to some less expensive rigs and provide you the training on how to use it. Nothing like hands on teaching - and it's free as well.

Flies for fly fishing are generally much lighter than those cast on a spinning or casting rig. Where a spinning rig you would cast a 1/4 oz. lure, a fly will often weigh less than 1/132 oz making it very difficult to cast on anything other than a fly rod. When fly fishing, it is the line that is the 'weight' and it? carries the fly with it. That was the long answer. The short answer is that you generally need a fly rod with fly line to cast these types of flies. There are exceptions however.

The original comment about the magnifiers was removed? by the original author and my response was warning him about his future. I wear 1.5 mags these days and will probably be moving up in the not to distant future. It doesn't matter what size I'm tying anymore, I need the mags.

Have a look at any of your local fly-fishing shops. You get them in different grades, dry fly? capes/saddles being the most expensive. When starting out, have a look at the more inexpensive ones, they will be around $15. You can also do a Google search for on-line shops in your country.
