Me and my friend like playing chess competitively (sometimes 5x a day!) and he will always take the FASTEST and most AGGRESIVE opening move. He will play (as white) d4 and immediatly play his? queen and bishop. This just wipes out my entire line (most of the time) and can leave me devestated within 30 seconds of playing. It leaves him open, but I have no idea what to combat this nature... What should I do?

it's a "fiachetto". It's where you position your pawns in a V formation and put the bishop? in between them. It's a very strong position and really hard to attack.

Good comment. Even the mighty kasparov had to be "on his best behaviour" in the? openings regarding the openings against the strongest computers. In preparation before any tournament i always play 200 hundred quick 5 minute games (white/black/white/black etc) against the latest fritz and shredder computer programmes.Any try i make outside the strongest main line path in the openings and the computers quickly crush me tactically or it's clear i'm saddled with a clearly losing ending etc.

After watching players in major tournaments for 50 years i can assure you that "real life" is the BEST CURRENT THEORETICAL MOVE in each particular opening. For amateurs, it's best to follow the main paths recommended by the masters as "going your own way" will quickly lead to disaster. (as any strong computer will quickly show you.) The greats like kasparov, ivanchuk etc CAN leave the book, but they have many "books" already in their? heads concerning the openings, and are geniuses positionally.

interesting... i would much rather play Nb8-c6 rather than Nb8-d7; the reason being is after b5 and b4 (the pawn being pushed 2 times) the knight protects the pawn on b4 and after the white knight retreats a4!, attacking the other knight. The bishop controlls the? whole e6-a2 diagonal and the rook? controlls the a8-a1 squares! this gives black a huge advantage if he were to attack on white's kingside......................�.

another thing to consider is when ppl stray from the book lines, they technically use a move which is inferior and should theoretically give you an early equality or even advantage. The book lines are what the GM's of the past recommend, if ur not a GM u should be playing book lines,? or technically ur just blundering early.

Yeah, I've been playing chess over 40 years and just learned that recently. There are plenty of other names that don't pronounce anything like they are spelled. Like 'Pirc' is pronounced 'Peerts'. Doesn't make a lot of difference but it's fun? to find out about foreign (to us at least) names and expressions.

If you think about it, White is maintaining an offensive pressure on the D-file with the Queen. If White were to play Qxb4, Black could gain a tempo by pushing d5. White is then forced to save the Queen. Black responds ... dxe4, not only opening up attacking lines for the light-squared Bishop, but gaining a strong passed pawn on the E-file. Rewinding back a step - if White plays Qa4, the Queen is concentrated on one? side of the board, weakening the position regardless.

he means open files, ranks, and columns. yes - an open game. bishops are important in open games knights are? important in closed games new players should get comfortable open games because they are more tacital. better players can play closed games as they are a bit slower and require more strategy. I have read all this in books and stuff.

Whenever you hear open, closed, or semi-open, they are talking about pawn structure. The open sicilian lines are named such because the theory involves early exchanges of pawns in the? opening which open the game up for both sides. Conversely, closed sicilian lines avoid the early pawn exchanges that free the movement of black and give him more counterplay. They aren't necessarily the sharpest lines and thus, don't give white as big an advantage. It's a risk/reward kind of game.

Fischer was NOT talking about "out of the book" moves, although that was one more reason why he gave up traditional chess, but positions that are arrived at? through the players AGREEING before the game to get to that position- a billion to one odds he said. And on this basis he concluded that other players were prearranging their matches. But he quit chess partly because of the fact that computers had analzed the best moves and it was no longer a creative game- Fischer Random was.

Define "predetermined games". I know that often times they play book moves well into move 20, but I see nothing wrong with playing what has been proven to give the advantage so long as you can. Also, I would argue that Bobby would not have "CRUSHED" Kasparov, and I think they are pretty equally matched, if not favoring Kasparov even. Morphy played interesting chess, but by today's standards, he wouldn't stand? a chance. Fischer was great, but ultimately, nothing but a quitter.

Should have a good game after 2. Bc4 d6 3.Kf3 Kf6 4.Kc3 e6, but u gotta watch out for 5.d4 cxd4 6.f3xd4 7.Be7 g4! A higher ranked player completely destroyed my Sicilian Defense with this line the other day. I think it's called the Keres Attack and you see it a lot after .....e6 in the Sicilian because ......e6 stops ur? Queen's Bishop from defending that move. I was gonna ask KC that as well, what are the strongest lines for black against this g4 move when black plays e6?

The Magnus Smith Trap is a misnomer. It's akin to calling a pseudo-sacrifice a sacrifice. After white pushes to e5 black can, and should, play Ng4. When white continues the pawn advance to e6, black can simply play f5. The knight is now safe (and can easily drop back to the active f6 square), the pawn is stuck, and eventually black may get some nasty counterattacks by using that f5 pawn as a strength after castling kingside. Maybe it's me, but I'd be pretty? happy with the black pieces here.

@TadayoniKian, chesscube sucks, though it looks fancy. I tried it last week because of these videos, and I played a game and won, but it costed me 10 cubits (which you start out with). They advertise it as free,? you still have to buy cubits or play free tournaments just to get cubits so that you can play other games. I abandoned chesscube, and registered at freechess, then used BabasChess in conjunction with the freechess account. There's a lot of good players on there.

Hello, I am new to this stuff, both as a chess player and vid production. Glad to have found your channel. Thanks for the uploads.? My first glance at this game yielded some, albeit elementary, observations. 1. e4 c5 goes into the Sicilian. Your d3 push seemed rather shy or perhaps you were deliberately trying to upset your opponents expectations from the outset. Either way I would have took up the challenge at least in opening and tried for the variants in middle to endgame instead.

The Alapin is a noobish opening. White simplifies the position and avoids almost all theory from the Sicilian to block the centre like in the French (also a? noob opening). There is nothing cool about the Alapin because unless you feel like playing a simple and boring game it's not going to be fun for either player. It is extremely easy for Black to equalise before move 12 with the 2. ... Nf6 line and then eventually playing d6 and recapturing with the queen and the game gets so boring.

Well I was good? for my age when I was younger, and used to make it onto our county team of my age group. So I was better than most but not brilliant. But that was when I was 10/ 11, I played relatively little over the last 7 years occasionaly on and off, and about 2 months ago I just joined a chess website and started playing again relatively regularly. I think it will just come with practice. So Although I'm still learning lots now, I still think I am probably better than my 10 year old self.

2:20 -> ..b6 doesn't seem to be a good move. You can just take a free pawn after 2. axb6? Nxb6 3. Rxa6 Rxa6 4. Bxa6.. then trade pieces and queen the b-pawn for example.
