Hi Michelle, thank you. The strips can be whatever width you like. Typical quilling paper is 1/8 inch wide, but quilling can be done on any scale - smaller or larger. This is my only video -? so far anyway!

Dear Ann Martin, my name is michelle73ism and I was wondering does it matter how thick to make each strip? I think that you make beautiful flowers. I hope that you have other videos, if so what are they called?? Looking forward to your response, thank you

maddj24, thanks; it's called? a quilling needle tool. Any stiff piece of thin wire can be substituted, but the handle makes it more comfortable to use.

Before watching this video I had no idea how quilling was really done and thought it would be? hard to do, but now I'm ready to quil none stop!

Thanks!? The paper I'm using is standard quilling paper, 1/8 inch wide. American quilling strips are about 22-24 inches in length. The weight is slightly heavier than typical computer printer paper, but that will work fine if you want to cut a sheet into strips to use as practice paper.

le2ce, I ordered my favorite tool from Japan, but when I was first learning to quill, I used a cake tester - it's a fine, stiff wire. Some prefer to use? corsage pins or cocktail sticks. That's a Fiskars paper trimmer you see me using in the video... it's very handy for cutting strips from a sheet of paper.

Thank you for sharing! I discovered quilling quite recently but I cannot find quilling tools here in Greece. I guess I need to order them. The tool you are using for cutting the strips is it also for quilling? How do you call it? Thanks a lot!?

That's great mrlundgren, most children enjoy quilling. Here's an idea for teaching really young kids to quill - use bread bag or trash bag twist ties that have a wire embedded. Older students do fine with regular quilling paper or they can make giant-sized snowflakes with wide strips - a half inch or so. Regular computer paper works? fine. Roll the strips on a wooden dowel.
