i thought it was a brilliant game myself; okay, so white messed up, but doesn't everybody; he doesn't have an excuse in my opinion, rather that shows his inability to maximize? the strengths he had; so congrats for fighting on every move. enjoyed.

Well I'm no chess expert, but the way I understand it tactical play focuses on generating combinations and weakening the opponent's king security while strategic play focuses on strategic concerns like controlling key squares, keeping needed flexibility, not rushing to overextend yourself.? Tactical play is more exciting to watch but strategy is a safer option if you're good at it. KC seems to see strategic play as more adult somehow and tactical as infantile.

it's also worth noting that theorists and masters don't own chess theory. while it's true that people who are very strong or experienced often have more (and more accurate) ideas about chess, it is an accessible enough game for us plebeians to make insightful positional/tactical observations, or have accurate insights now and then. the reason for this is that nothing worth studying is so neat that a single system? catches all of its nuances.

I think to become a higher FIDE title would involve lots of travel and hard work - and I prefer playing? blitz/rapid and doing chess videos as far as online. As far as OTB is concerned I prefer club chess - which is ECF rated. I achieved my highest ECF rating not too long ago, and my rapid rating is in the UK top 100. FIDE do not own the chess world - they rank the strongest players in the world and give titles but they do not own chess activity - only an elite part of it.

I see? why you hate Kotov, for if you felt he was right, you would have to make serious changes to your thought process. At f5 or e5, you break his fundamental example of inefficient thinking. Not sure if you are right and he takes the fun out of chess, or whether this is the main reason your game has not improved to solid master level. Failure too produce a more efficient thought process.

Bxc3 was tempting because after black then plays dxe4, they're assuming? you'll play dxe4 and they can exchange queens and prevent castling. I was actually predicting especially after the time was spent on his move that he was going to go for that, obviously not assuming you'll leave the e4 pawn.

Hey, you probably already know this now, but you were still very much okay after his knight came to f2. Nothing to worry about. 34.h4 was one choice as you verbally mentioned... simply saving? the pawn by moving it. Also, 34.Qc4 was also okay. No need to "panic" yet and give up the exchange with Rxf2. The game was even up to then, but then after this exchange sacrifice, Black had a nice edge. I enjoyed the game. Thanks for posting it.

(which you'd already considered, but obviously he missed). given that you both still had 3~ min left, 33. your talk about emotions reminds me of one of the main things i got from kasparov's my story. for obvious reasons (ego-oriented) kasparov downplays his storied opening preparation and talks about how he acts under pressure, and about emotional blocks for? him or opponents in games. beyond just validating himself as a genius, i think he's trying to emphasize that character and psychology drive a player's ability to find the right move.

I know many players are higher rated in 15 minutes time control than in 5 or 1 minute time control. This guy has 600 rating points more in 15 than in 5 minutes games. IMO, this shows he sometimes uses an engine in longer games. I played a guy who said he was a "rusty? FM" but had 778 rating in 5 minutes and just overkilled me in a 15 minutes games, where I was rated over 2000. This is really pretty f*cking annoying.

When I play the french as black in bullet games (where I'm almost always playing against humans who are using intuition), d2-d3 against the french with g2-g3 followed by Nf3, Bg2, and 0-0 is almost always followed by Re1 to prepare e4-e5 it seems. But who knows, I'm not an extremely strong player, I'm just citing experience and "patterns in chess" as you say in my analysis here.

Rd1 is not a move in the King's Indian Attack and doesn't show up once in Chessbase Opening? Encyclopedias 210 games from that position. Pretty deep novelty it appears, but then again he is a GM strength 15 minute internet player after all. (No matter he couldn't beat a potted plant in real life or on faster time controls.)

In Sicilian defence games recently: Against genuine opponents not using engines I don't think I have lost any 15? minute games whatsoever on the 15 minute time control with either colour quite frankly. If you? think otherwise then you must be incredibly naive about move frequency and massive rating inconsistencies. I am sorry to understand that this naivity is quite widespread with Youtube chess viewers. I hope I can replace this by educating on the harsher realities of online chess.

Subsequent comments (I decided against posting) were that Qd6 was advantage? black and appeared a very decent position to play (very hard for white to defend) with black's super strong centre, two raking bishops and connected passed pawns. Question, are there any other chess sites that offer a larger 'pool' of high ranked players? whaaaaaat???(imagine that in a high pitch voice lol) Dude I always play e4 no matter what. d4 is for people who want a boring game. I actually never play sicilian with black, but I have to play it a? lot for white, that's why I want to learn the GPA. The GPA has the advantage that you don't have to learn that huge amount of lines against the open sicilian. I usually play that kind of stuff, very agressive stuff so the other guy's theory matters very little

most instructive part of this game is opponent's play. 8:37 on? the clock, 8:34 on the clock when he takes the knight and loses the game. classic "you have time, why aren't you thinking???" stuff. even if he was destined to lose and not see the Qe4+ for some reason, he should have realized there was a reason you went into a long think and then parked your knight where a pawn could take it. really good lesson: blundering is 1 thing, but the 3 sec blunder in 15min game quite another.

To be honest KC, it felt in this and a few of the fifteen minutes games you've done so far that you were still in the five minute mindset for the first twenty or so moves. You had enough time that you didn't need to be moving so quickly and then saying 'oh I could have won an exchange there, too late now'. You're a strong enough player that it probably won't matter much now, but I'd expect stronger opponents than this one to be? able to punish mistakes like that

Don't agree with this argument. It might be the case that Nh7 is slightly worse than Nd7 by coincidence... the point of Nh7 is to provoke h4 which weakens g4 where the bishop can influence key? squares in the white position. I think it worked out nicely in this game. Nd7 does not provoke h4 from white, but keeps the knight in the game. Which is better? I dunno, but it's one for the engine...

I ran it on my engine and he played number 2 unless he had to play 1 and that? was after a longer think than usual. He waited longer than needed in general. If I were using an engine, my play would be similar, except I would have speeded things up.

I don't know but factually he seems very very weak on other time controls. His 5 minute maximum ever rating? was 1674 (over 200 games played). I leave it up to you guys to decide for yourselves.

Black doesn't play badly here, White just overwhelms him with well-coordinated pieces and timely attacks. 19.Kf8 looks, and? is, horrible, I'm not sure f6 is any better.

Do you think this user used an engine? I ran it through my engine and all the moves but for 2 moves were identical, but then again, the game was not very? long and some if not most of the moves were logical.

Good job getting to 2200. I'm sure that you will be there again soon. After reaching 2200 again, you can start the slow tough climb to 2300. You will get there, just put your pieces on good squares. If you are not sure what square is best, just throw a piece into the air and see where? it lands. :-)
