Could you use Beall Bowl Buffs to finish the inside of your napkin rings? A Beall finish would look good on the outside, too. You could even leave the ring on your jig,? then dismount the jig to hold the ring while you buff the outside. Just a thought. Thanks for the great video. Chuck

Hi Bob, Thanks for the video,? i now have a set of napkin rings each successfully turned using the method you showed in this video. For finishing the inside of my rings i mounted the square blocks in my chuck and sanded/applied finish. This way i could also slighly round the inside corners with the sandpaper so that they didnt catch when the napkins were taken in and out. My forstner bit did not leave a surface as clean as yours did! Thanks for sharing Bob. -Marc

Hi, Matt: The lathe is electronic variable speed with 3 belt positions for 3 speed ranges. I am using the highest range in this video, which also means the lowest torque. The speed controller may have a slight lag in increasing the power when I start a cut but I can't say it? is noticeable when I am turning. Take care Bob

Hi, Aharndts: I am quite happy with it. It is heavy enough to stay put but light enough to be? portable. It has turned everything I have put on it so far without a problem. I really like the 1" tool post hole in the banjo because it lets me use all the rests that I have for my big lathe on this one as well. Take care Bob

Hi: I like it! It is quite a bit noisier than the DVR but then my muffs are usually the first thing I put on when I walk into the shop. It is going to? take a bit of getting used to how heavy I can cut on a 3/4 hp. lathe as compared to a 2 hp. lathe. :) Since my first lathe was a Reeves drive and the DVR is direct drive this is the first lathe I have had that requires belt changes for the different speed ranges. Hi, Rick: The new midi lathe is a General International 25-114 M1 Maxi Lathe VF. ? Specs are available on their web site but I can't put a link in a reply. My main lathe is a Nova DVR which I have been using for about 6 years now. The main point that tipped the scale for this midi is that it uses tool rests with a 1" post so I can use all the ones I already have. Most midi lathes use a tool rest with a 5/8" post. Thanks Bob! Reason I ask is because I am interested in either this lathe or the Delta 46-460. The toolpost diameter and swing are extremely appealing, but the 3/4 hp and lighter tailstock are slight drawbacks at first look. Either would handle the spindle projects I like to do, but I would love to have a little more bowl capacity without having to get a large lathe right now. Anyway.... Hey Bob, That's a great idea, napkin rings for the wedding reception. Will there be special? napkins to go with them? I'd like to see how they look with the finish on them. We haven't gotten out of the heat yet. Next week is supposed to be the hottest of the year. It's a good time to stay inside. I look forward to the fall when I can move my lathe outside, too. Hi, Matt: I can't say I have noticed any issues I would attribute to a lack of mass in the tailstock. The whole lathe only weighs 85 lbs. which would probably be considered rather light for such a large swing. I have done a few bowls in the 8" to 10" diameter range on it without problems. I haven't? tried anything bigger or heavier yet. Take care Bob

Thank you so much for a fantastic video. In Australia on the last Friday in August, we have daffodil day which fundraises for the cancer council. trying to get ideas for dressing up at work is very difficult. Made these daffodils out of paper napkins as I couldnt get tissue paper the right colour. They turned out amazing. going? to wear them on a head band. Thanks again for a great video
