It's called the rolling shutter effect, and it's a (very big) common problem with CMOS sensors that are in DSLR's. I don't know the exact science behind the reason, but all I know is that these cameras all have pretty much the best control over the jello effect (for their price range and intended market). Lower grade? cameras have much much worse rolling shutter. As long as you keep your pans slow (and if thats difficult, use a smooth tripod) it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

The sharpness issue with the Canon is hardly an issue. You spend time in post anyway. You will play with all kinds of filters and ideas, with Magic Bullet to name one. So rendering? needs to be done anyway. And the aliasing issue makes the Nikons unusable.

If it can zoom in, then yes, actually you can. When he changes the lens on his camera, what he is changing? is called the Focal Length, i.e. how zoomed in the image is. The effect is the same with the optical zoom on consumer camcorders.

@ballsniff13 Lol, Nails and screws have different properties. Nails have great shear resistance and won't snap. Screws obviously have a? greater pullout resistance but are generally brittle with little shear resistance. Different tools for different jobs, not better or worse.

I like to use ring-shank nails, that resist backing out. Of course, a screw here and there is nice. With the bendability and cheapness and ease of driving nails, plus a few screws for a tight hold, you can't go wrong. Keep in mind that if you plan on expanding the deck in a year or two when you can save the money, use screws only: Much easier to disassemble one end for expansion if? you used screws.
