Lessons learned from the trail How to prepare for your hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail aka AT. The reason we are doing so is because before we went on our hike we watched a butt load of videos on the subject and spent a lot of time doing it. Also hiking and the outdoors is one of our passions.... so why not

Limited Gear Trip -- The Hike

The Bear Grylls impersonations were hilarious. However, the footage I wanted to obtain from this trip took a backset. I was running a secondary camera to the action. But I did get enough film to give a flavor for the trip and what the Scouts were filming. Hopefully this is entertaining enough. Music -- Kevin MacLeod

Blister = I learned the hard way get ride of your hiking boots/shoes and heavy socks and get some ultra light trail running shoes, I switched to Merell Trail glove shoes. I can hike from sunrise to sunset with not a? single blister.

Maybe that is a great alternative. I'll give it a shot? next time. Thanks for the tips :) M&C

As a runner, I used to get blisters on my pinky toes and? between my thighs, something fierce. Moleskin and band-aids weren't practical, because I run almost every day. Instead, I used a product called Body Glide Anti-Chafe, which is a solid lube stick that rolls on like deodorant. It gives you a thin layer of lube that TOTALLY prevents friction and burning. Years later, my skin has toughened up enough that I don't need it anymore. But it's great for when you do! Try something like that.

Wigwam Polypropelene Liners and Smartwool or Thorlo Hiking socks work well. Also if you have? excessive blisters it could mean that your boots are fitting too loose.

Hey Mike.... I never go hiking without some? athletic tape. Million uses, especially with blisters. Cheap and relatively light. Get the good quality stuff though. Love the videos!

That's a LOT of mole skin! Have? you tried 2 pair of socks? Sometimes wearing a thin, tight, nylon liner sock under a thicker moisture wicking sock can take the friction off the skin. I have had really good luck with SmartWool hiking socks. They hold their shape and stay tight on the foot, and are designed specifically to cushion the balls and heels of your feet. I haven't read through all the comments so this may have been duplicate information.

If you were having that much pain in you feet over a three day hike, you may want to invest in new and better boots. Not sure why for a short hiking trip you would need so much moleskin. If your boots are tight they may cause you toes or the outside of you feet? to rub which is really bad for long trips. Good advice on how to take care of you feet though! Your feet are the most important tool you have to take care of them!

No better teacher than doing. I have watched several of your vedios and believe that many have shared good advise and you have been graceful in accepting mistakes, and learning. Get a dehydrator that you can regulate the temps and time, this will give you less wieght and more nutrition. Those prepackaged food cannot sustain one for a long period only short trips, opt for? making them yourself ( no chemicals added FAKE salts, sugars and oils that will make you sick). I look forward to new vedios:)

Plastic trash bags !!! bring several plastic trash bags, you can use them to carry stuff, or transport water or fill them with leaves to make a pillow or mattress or u can? pop holes in them to make a poncho, u can even rip them to use for cordage, make a sling, etc.

My trip to Puerto Rico was awesome, I refused to be picked up at the airport and hiked it all the way to my ex-mom-in-law's. The 12 mile hike was like any other trail except for the? rain, bugs, mosquitoes, mud,95degree weather at night and lets not forget the possibility of being killed by the locals, lol.
By: lunaticasai. on 18 Apr 12, 02:16:58
Hey guys, a couple of things. You probably use deodorant and not "anti-perspirant deodorant" which keeps your pits from sweating (alot of people dont even realize till they read it on the label). Also bought a pair of Dr.Schol's running sneakers for $20.00 that are the lightest shoe I've found (it's 90% mesh so? you feel the slightest breeze refreshing your feet). And (instant oatmeal with fruit variety box of 10) CVS or Walgreens has 3 1/2 oz. airport safe travel bottles for your fuel.

hiking tip: ALWAYS wear pants, NEVER shorts. Keeps you from getting stuck by thorns & even if you sweat a little more it actually keeps you better hydrated because the water on you skin doesn't evaporate so quickly. I would suggest lightweight thin but strong pants that wik away sweat. I use BLACKHAWK! warrior wear black tac pants.? ripSTOP technology really works & my legs are still cool while wearing them.

Great tips guys! Mole skin is an item that I have little of in my pack. I came back to watch this vid again due to a two day hike I have coming up. I had to sub to? your channel again and I was scrolling down my sub list and couldn't find you. I knew you had these series of vids. Sometimes YT can be frustrating dealing with lost subbers and more. Take care and God bless you guys. How did you make the spuds and tuna?

Don't? take crocs! I've walked down my Garden in them and got twigs, grass etc pocking my feet, you don't want that at the end of a big hike.Nice Video anyway.
