I once had some mathematical genius (I'm being sarcastic about him) who said, 'for every inch I gain in height I would be twice as fast!'? Shame about his low IQ and terrible maths skills. Doubling for every inch like so: 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096; 8192; 16,384; 32,768;65,536;131,072;262,144;524,288; 1,048,576....after only 20 inches it is faster than the speed of light...what a genius. Oh right, bit like a guy going into a shoe shop and saying, 'size doesn't matter, size 9 please.' Large people are at a disadvantage over distance, and perhaps even in the mile. I doubt Halle would be as quick in the marathon if he was 8 foot? and weighed 30 stone. This all is well documented by science, but I also doubt that Halle would beat Michael Phelps in swimming no matter how much he trained. So size does matter, just that sometimes its better to be bigger and sometimes smaller.

Let's just say this, Bolt has the record, Gay doesn't (and isn't even close)! And one defeat means jack in the 100m sprint, what is important is the World Record. Haile Gebrselassie would beat anyone in a mile on his good days as would Bolt in 100m. By the way, both weight and height are the issues with running and endurance events - this is scientifically proven. Being very tall? or very heavy is a disadvantage in endurance and middle distance events - this is why heavy people will NEVER win!

You got it right and wrong, size means everything in running. This is why you never see a really fat or tall person winning a marathon. Height adds? weight and environmental resistance. For instance, a rat's top speed is 25 mph, if a rat was 6 foot long would run it run 250 mph? Same speed as a Bugatti Veyron? No. Anyway, just a bit of factual thing for you, all Tyson's losses have come from taller opponents and sometimes lighter. Hollyfield was lighter in weight than Tyson, and beat him.

You actually made the smartest comment. I expect your IQ to be higher than a lot on here. It has all to do with weight. It isn't so much that tall or heavy people can't run, think of Bolt, it is over longer distances it becomes more of a challenge to hold a massive frame for a long duration. Against environmental? resistance (like wind and terrain), let's not forget gravity, and because of this they wear down quicker.

Both height and weight are factors in running but obviously the bigger they get the more difficult it is over longer distances. Would Halle beat 6'5 Bolt in 100m race, not a chance in hell, would Bolt beat Halle in? a marathon...not a chance. Is it because Bolt doesn't have the natural speed that Halle has...no! He is proven to be the fastest man on the planet. It is weight and streamline body mechanics that makes these runners ideal for certain events.

Actually it is about size, height and weight are proven to be disadvantages over longer distances. This is why fat people are not the most ideal runners, extremely tall people aren't either. It was once said that nobody over 6 foot could ever win the marathon, is this because they are rubbish runners, nobody over 6 foot has the genetics for it (highly unlikely)? or bio-mechanics (yeap).

There is an huge difference between being the best and? greatness. Bekele may be the best but there is no greatness. Gebrselassie, hands down, is the greatest, the king. He owned 1500m titles and 10,000m titles at the same time. He had set records in his distances multiple times. As well as being a businessman he finds time to set marathon world records at the age of 37. Gebrselassies legend will be as big as Muhammed Ali for generations to come
