I am a LARPer. I'm also a computer scientist and yes, I do have a career and professional responsibilities. LARP for me is a way to "break out" every once in a while. And yes, the first couple of times you WILL feel like an utter weirdo. While on a game, everyone is in character and in costume, so you'll be ok then. But you need to get used to it when someone stumbles into the game? (we call them "tourists") or you are on your way to the game itself. But that's part of the fun.

So, my mate and a few of his friends were playing ratmen - like WH fantasy Skaven - and they started speaking with really squeaky voices. That didn't go down well. Respectfully- you've been tiptoeing around a couple of fallacious arguments- first? taking on an air of authority when you said "knowing Shaun Ryder as well as I think." and then suggesting that because I'm an American (?) I really don't "get" British character. I chose to ignore these red herrings- always going back to what's in the text- (screenplay) I've put forth my rationale for Ryder being the #2 genius+ backed it up with relevant dialogue. That may be true- but the character in the film- and I think it's important to note we are talking about a work of fiction here- says "In this film" not "at this gig". Whether or not Tony Wilson was a twat or not has nothing to do with it- we're interpreting a piece of dialogue from a film here. So I have provided 2 pieces of evidence -from the text of the film- which back my interpretation- and I welcome any evidence -from the film- that? the character "Tony Wilson" means himself.

You mention Tony's "self effacing" comments but Tony was one of the most big headed people who ever lived. He was the most pretentious person Manchester ever produced. I see you are in The? States, I dunno if you're an ex-pat Brit or American born and bred. There is history between Moz and Tony and Tony always believed The Smiths to be one of the most over rated bands? of the 80's. Personally, I think that Tony was just being spiteful because he didn't recognise their talent in time and never signed them. Either way, it shows Tony didn't always get it right and in fact made one of the biggest blunders in music, almost to the level of Decca et al missing The Beatles. Tony missed signing the best band of all time!

I know Tony considered X to be a poetry genius (I think he is extremely under rated and has a wonderful way with words) but that wasn't the point here. Shaun Ryder wasn't at that gig. In fact, if I know Shaun as well as I think I do,? he wasn't even particularly into music at that age (think he would have been 14-15 in 76) and was more interested in being a young villain.

It's just wildly inaccurate on the june 4 gig. A lot more people attended the july 20 gig, but hardly any of them were there to see the Pistols rather than Slaughter and the Dogs. Not the Pistols.
