What method were you using to set them? If you use pliers, sometimes it's difficult to flatten. Hammer method is often easiest to get them to set securely. You can also use? a length of twill tape or another layer of coutil in the back panel, both to add strength (to prevent the grommet from popping out) and add a little thickness in case the grommets are difficult to flatten.

When I used grommets, they barely flattened. My fabric was kind of thin,? but not THAT thin. I don't know what I did wrong, but EVERY time it came out that way. I ended up going with hook and eye closures. Any ideas, anyone? Has anyone else had this problem?

I had to go outside the typical JoAnn's and Fabricland to find some decent two-part grommets. The kit I found was in this little hole-in-the-wall dressmaking store that's not a chain, so I can't really help you there. I? think your best bet is to find some online - most grommet kits come with their own little setting tool, all you need is a hammer - then you can buy "refill" or "re-order" grommets as you need. I'm personally an ebay fiend, I buy most of my corset supplies there.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the actual process? of putting in a grommet....banging and all that goes with it. I'm pretty sure everyone has a volume control on their computers as well that we can turn down while you're banging away your frustrastions. Lol! One more thing though, I have noticed on some corsets they will have some sort of front fasteners, what are these and how can they be added or put on?

Oops, sorry? for taking so long to respond! I like the smaller (#00) better but almost all the off-the-rack corsets I've seen have the bigger (#0) grommets. I will try to show putting in a grommet eventually when I know the banging won't bother anyone. :)

Yes, you can, but DON'T! You'll end up with far too large a hole and the eyelet will pull out under strain. It is important to *poke*? the hole, not cut it.

I havent been able to find eyelet pliers in my town not in walmart or hobby lobby or any other craft store. I have been able to find snap pliers however- are they the same thing? Or could I use it as a substitute? I tried the hammer one? and out of about 10 time only one worked and then it was all dented and ugly. Obviously I need the pliers...

Hi there - sorry for my delayed response! This particular type does not have a backing. The tool curls the eyelet back on itself to form the back side. There are some that have backing pieces, and in those? cases the two sides "grab" onto each other when you use the tool to compress them together. I hope this helps clarify things for you!
