Wikipedia is never a reliable? guide, but apparently Dick Rowe send Mike Smith to see The Beatles at The Cavern. Further, Decca had apparently cut a number of singles from the demo tape, suggesting that someone in authority at Decca was confident of their signing. It's so hard to say anything without solid evidence from the time, other than labels don't usually make masters for singles they never plan to sell.

This recording is very respectable by any standard. I've heard FAR worse demo tapes, again by bands that became legendary supergroups in their respective genre, and it's as good or better than any of the recordings by established groups of? the time that I've heard. I put heavy weight on Decca's choice of a cheaper option and the official uncertainty over who made the call. It smacks of a financial decision, not a musical one.

Pete's drumming is very early 60's, sounds as if he listened to The Shadows drummers? (Meehan & Bennett) of which was the staple of drumming from the late 50's, it's ok his drumming, obviously different to Ringo's no two guys play the same, but then again I absolutely hate Ringo's drumming, basically Ringo was all image rather than playing.

Hello 1982pencil! Yes, all you say, is true. But; after listening to the Radio Bristol live performance and the Polydor? recordings, I have to say; despite trying to be as objective as possible, Ringo was superior to Pete at the time. All the best Jrahde

Right, but you've got to remember that they were nervous. I think if Dick Rowe had heard them at the Cavern (so in their element, where they played to a packed house? twice a day), he would've signed them on the spot. They had also been driving all night from Liverpool.

So? Did Dick Rowe ever kick himself to death? ?

Hello beck 769! "Tomorrow she never knows"???? :) By the way, if Ringo was as unknown as the Pete-Best-fans urban legend tells, why didn't they ask him to use his real name on? stage??? All the best Jrahde

Lets not forget that it was? not only DECCA that passed on the BEATLES...just think what they would have sounded like if Joe Meek had signed them!
By: sergiocable. on 17 Feb 12, 05:25:58
decca said "this guys have not talent at all, this? guys will never make it" and they changed music history. most famous rejection of all the time. the beatles left decca with their mouths open after they became the most famous and greatest band of all time.

I love? the irony that last October, so close to the 50th anniversary of this audition, Paul McCartney FINALLY released an album on the Decca label!

Hello Badfinger1974! First of all, nice, that you noticed my comment? on Norman Chapman. But like I've already said a million times; after listening to all the possible material and trying to be as objective as possible, I still find Ringo a lot better drummer in every aspect to Pete. However; in an intererview Horst Fascher had the same idea as you about Epstein. I found it possible too, that mr. Eppy himself wanted to be the only manager of The Beatles! All the best Jukka

Great comment below on Norman Chapman...poor guy, had the break of all time being discovered by John,? Paul and George while pounding the drums and then the unlucky moment of all time when he was about the last person drafted in the British army.

What do you all think of the new theory that Best was ousted by Epstein, who couldn't handle Mona Best? anymore?

Hello egolas35653! Unfortunately truth is mean; based on these Decca sessions, the Polydor sessions and the Radio Bristol tapes Ringo was better in every sense and I've tried to be as bojective as possible. If I would find? something to defend Pete, I would defenitely do that. And he talks this today and something else tomorrow like I've told in these discussions. And how would you feel your ex-bandmate calling you a liar (like Pete has about the others) for years? All the best Jrahde
By: legolas35653. on 04 Nov 11, 22:43:37
Why are you guys being so mean? to pete , imagine if he actually read this ,

Hello once again, wladwlad! And the late Lennon-McCartney too, doing a pretty good job! Besides, according to Philip Norman seriously considered hiring Ringo as a session drummer for Polydor, the most leading record company in the continental Europe at the time! All? the best Jukka
