I was in the doldrums for years as my chess didn't get better, but then i studied ALL the games of tal, bronstein, fischer, alekhine and kasparov that began? as white with 1.e4 and as black their sharp replies (kings indians, sicilians, etc) and just by repeatedly studying their games (all 3000 of them) and playing daily 20 blitz games as white then black etc against fritz i am now able to play much much better.. Having studied a thousand sicilians like this one, as black, i never fear 1.e4 now

Tal was a great player~ nice game, liked?
By: godkillerinthehizzle. on 13 Mar 12, 16:04:21
In this case it was an attempt to? take the heat off the attack that was ensuing.

and if you make a deeper calculation and go down some moves, you will see that the queen will have to move to d2 after f4, which is the only square to keep it in game really, allowing also tactics to the black queen on the white knight on c5, which is not protected now. White will either lose? the queen after Rf2+ forking the king and queen or get mated if queen goes to c1, where it' totally passive. The loss would be some moves away.
By: hthought. on 14 Dec 11, 04:17:07
that move would be an instant loss. What follows is Nh3+, KF1 only move, and f4! ripping the g3 pawn and preparing rook and queen to come to the almost open g? file. It would be a totally losing move.

True, but all he had to? do to protect the pawn at G2 was to move forward one, save him trading a rook for a knight. Unless his move was better.
By: mdnoorfairouz. on 28 Sep 11, 10:39:03
its like a decoy,to release pressure from the king side coz knight and bishop were aiming for the g2 square?
By: johnmilo117. on 22 Sep 11, 12:01:47
7:20 - why trade a rook? for a knight?

Amazing that just before his death and looking very ill he sneaked out of hospital and gate-crashed a blitz gathering with kasparov crushing everybody as usual. Security at the door entrance stepped aside.(They tend to do that for ex-world champions!) Tal then asked gary for a game. Gary? obliged and then tal produced an amazing sequence of moves in a mega sharp sicilian and beat him!! See this amazing short game AND the video of this incredible game here on youtube.

I've lost several games like Fischer did here, only at several levels of skiller lower. Tal brilliantly wears his opponent down? and goes for the kill when he smells blood. Thanks for the commentary, great stuff.
By: Gleefan39. on 04 Jul 11, 05:07:01
I like how Tal? wasted no time!

Instead of Re2? May be it goes Kh3+ King goes f1 and then? f4 with crushing attack

@eeeeeriickkkkk Ya, well, he was still a kid at the time.? He got WAY better. Tom David Minneapolis

@5.16, why didn't Fischer just move his pawn on the? g file to chase away the knight? Great commentary by the way. Thank you.
