Congrats on the news. The thinner you get, the? busier it seems. Been a while since I posted any questions, but I'm now scheduled for my VSG October 14th in Huntington, WV. The head of bariatrics at Marshall University is doing it through the VA, who's covering it. I'm already trying to reason my way out of it lol.

The sleeve is an option to? look into, but it really comes down to whats best for you. his is something that you should talk with your Dr. about. I had no hair loss after surgery. I owe that to proper nutrition after surgery and that there is no malabsorption of vitamins with the sleeve

Hi Mark, I've been approved for surgery and I've been watching lots of videos, especially yours. My Dr. seems reluctant at GSS and is recommending GBS but, I don't want the symptoms like dumping and choking that friends of mine still go through after thier GBS's. I feel that GSS would be better for me but now I wonder if I should look for a Dr. with more Sleeve surgery experience. Any? thoughts on that? Also, have you had much hair loss? You seem to have plenty of hair, unlike my GBS friends!

(part 3/3) I've been doing research on post-op nutrition, supplements, what works/doesn't work as far as eating and watching video diaries. I even saw a surgical video of the procedure with commentary and the doctor says it takes an average of 50 minutes I think. I'm thinking of doing? video diaries too, but not sure if I want to. Take it easy and keep us updated.

(part 2) I wish there was a class like you are talking about in this area. The lady at the VA called and referred me to a bariatric support group for post-op, but I'm going to check it out pre-op. Also, I have noticed that someone makes the "protein bullets" as much as 42 grams of protein now. It would be a? great option to use, epsecially in the liquid-only phases after surgery.

Cool update...about time. 3.85 gpa? Slacker...lol...j/k. Nice to see things still going well. Myself, I have 3 weeks of nutrition classes left ast the VA (MOVE program) and everything else is cleared so after the classes I'm eligible for the VSG. The MOVE program has nothing to do with surgery, but it's "required" and it's 99% of info we already know. We know? what calories are, how to read labels, blah, blah blah...it's how to change habits I'm terrible at.

Very cool offer! As I was watching your update, I got some inspiration to do something completely different with my new life (post op). I remember wanting to be a gym teacher back in high school. Didn't happen. I work in IT. But maybe I could do something with? nutrition and exercise now. I've been complaining I'm bored with my current work situation. before WLS I used a controlled carb? (low net carb) diet to lose 70-80lb. I have metabolic challenges so I also used portion control. My search for something that works and what was wrong with my metabolism led me to much study about hormones, how the body works, and nutrition. Right now I chose to stick with full liquids and always low carb. I figure I will take advantage of the time I am not wanting solid food.

Mark - You asked me to stay in touch, so here I am again. Had the RNY gastric bypass 10 1/2 weeks ago, doing fine so far. Down 65 pounds, should have 100 off by Labor Day. Eating is a whole new experience for me. Incredibly small quantities 4-5 times a day. No food reversal (aka "dumping syndrome with puking") yet, but its been close a couple times. Learning curve is? way steep. Love everything about how I am now. Still on CPAP (by choice) for now. Thanks.

I think my bad color is from the lighting in the room...trust me...if I? was sick looking my wife would have told me. its not a struggle to be under 200lbs..and I probably will be above that after I cut the bodyfat and add lean muscle mass. that's when I really realized that from about 6-8 ago as you have lost weight, you have changed the way you look; and yes you do look not very healthy. Call me vain but I'd rather look full of life and healthy at 230lb than be in one der land and look sick. Great video Mark! I think it's great what you have accomplished. The road map that you talk about is a great suggestion for weight loss. I myself have lost at least 60 pounds since I had the Lap-Band surgery on April 25 of this year. I am at about 225 pounds. I weighed in at 300 when I started this program on Dec 31st last year 2008. My goal is to be at 185 pounds. My surgeon says most likely 165 or better! I've been a fan of yours since? this time last year! Mark, Thanks for encouraging me!

congrats on being back in school. it's hard to get it all to fit into 24 hours in a day. i get up at 5 am, i am at work by 7, leave work at 3 and make it to the gym by 4:30 and then home by 6, shower and then time to be domesticated and wrap up my day. by 11:15 i am sleeping. then it all starts over again. keep working it! good to see? you. take care.

Your progression sounds similar to mine...walking about a mile at night, then pedometer, then C25K, then 5K races, now training for a 15K. You really are an inspiration, Mark. I remember watching your weekend walking adventures for months. My husband is 480 lbs and gets his sleeve in 13 days. I hope he does as well as you. Can you do a video on your skin. He is crazy worried about how that will inhibit him since he needs to lose over 300 lbs. He is? also worried about losing muscle mass.

congrats!!! you are very inspiring! i have been stalling like crazy despite being very strict with my diet and added exercise. my surgeon's office said i can't get any lower, not even if i worked out? 8 hrs per day. it's hard not to be discouraged and filled with doubts when medical professionals are saying these things to me. :(

awesome job mark! wow, 209, u must be super stoked! i just broke the 300 lb barrier. havent been at this weight since i was 18, so im stoked. since my VSG last june i'm down 180. not the really great progress ur making, but it's progress none-the-less! also will start stand up paddleboarding and have been training in boxing for the first time ever in my life. i will be taking turbo kickboxing at 24 next? week...if i die i want u to know that ur pretty dang awesome! howz the wifey? hope all good!

Thanks for watching my videos and for your support! I made a video a few weeks ago called "my 800 calorie meal plan" that should answer your questions about what I eat. I workout 6 days a week, 3? hours per day. You don't have to do that much unless you're crazy like me! start off doing what you can and build up to an hour or so a day. be sure to discuss your exercise plan with your Dr. first though =) best wishes on your own journey

I love your videos. I am just getting started. I weigh 375? pounds so I have a long way to go. I have my consultation on Thursday and hope to be starting the optifast diet the following week. I have to get down to a bmi of 60 before he will take me to surgery. Now that you are out 61 weeks, what is your typical day like for food intake. What are you eating? You have done super! I hope you make it to your goal before your appointment. I think playing by the rules has to be the hardest thing for people whom have had wls. I am only 7 weeks out and everything is still? new to me so I have pretty much stuck to the rules (afraid not too, for now) But I know the day will come and I will have to make the choice to have the snack or not...I hope not. I agree that changing it up is key. I was? swimming for about 10 hours a week but cut a few hors and added a crosstraining class. I lost and toned more qickly. Next I 'm thinking spin class!

I can and do pretty much eat anything. no problems with crust or tacos, guacamole...it all goes down no problemo. I do have to really plan for my meals and snaking to stay under? the magic 800...but it can be done!

Some food questions: As I'm new... I'm trying to plan for later. You don't have any trouble with pizza crust? With tacos? you mentioned wraps? No trouble? Tortillas? Guacamole is ok? No trouble with peanuts? From what I hear... you (and I, as a sleever, too) can eventually get to eat anything in smaller quantities, with an? eye on the number of proteins for the calorie count? You even get to snack in your 800 calorie days? You are amazing! My nutritionist already warned me about snacking!

all that stuff looks so yummy I cant eat some of it though because of my braces darn it!!! I love TJS I like the chiken fajitas in the frozen section one serving is like 90 calories and even if you scarf the whole bag down its like 200 calories or something like that. its in my first and only grocery haul I made a while back just dont put the seasoning packet in it if you dont want the sodium? . I dont mind the sodium personally I put salt on my salt lol

Doesn't sound very good, as long as you put healthy foods in your body and excersize to build muscle you will get tight and lean. More muscle = body burns more even if you aint doing nothing. If you don't give those muscles the food they need they will not grown and your training will not build a machine that will consume alot but you are starving yourself. IF regular eating patterns return your body will store that food in fat because no muscles are? there to consume it. Jojo effect

One? of the things I love about being post-op is trying all new recipes. I can actually cook scallops! I also love all kinds of marinates. I also eat about 600-800 a day and exercise avg 3hrs a day but I'm only 4 months out. I've lost 75 in 4 months but feel like I'm behind everyone.

geez and Im struggling to keep to 1500 calories a day. I have not got any weight loss surgery yet, been on a waiting list almost two years. Seeing a dietitian and 1500 cals was suggested, finding it really hard. I hate being so big but I also hate? feeling deprived and look forward to having a lapband. Watching your videos gives me hope

I had minigastricbyypass which is very similiar to the sleeve but then? they move the connection to the bowel 6 ft ahead with no cutting of the bowel just poke a hole in it and connect.... Watching the before and after pics made me almost cry...You are doing great and I am so happy for you...Rose

thanks for speakin up darla! more and more? data is showing that Sleeve patients are having just as good results and with less complications in most cases. i'm sure those classes will start speaking more of the sleeve. it will just take a little more time. my surgeon is up on the latest and the talk amoung the surgeon community is that the Sleeve may very well replace the bypass and the lapband before long due to the great results, less costly, less complications. Yay Sleeve!

hey mark you look great my friend. all that working out your doing you probably do need more calories how about an extra protein shake or two through? out the day. i have no idea how many calories they have but if you are only eating 8000 calories and you are probaby burning about 4 to 5 hundred or more your body will try to hold on to what it has. Hey there my friend you did awesome lbs wow. I have been sidlined for a couple of days because my thyroid medication was too high and caused probelems with the rhythim of my heart rate but I will be back into action as soon asmy body can handle it again they took my medication down from 300 to 200? mcgs because of my weight loss so far . so its a good problem I guess. btw, is it hard to get approved for a sleeve up there? here, my insurance company mostly approves the full bypass being that sleeves are still in the young stages. i was fortunate to get the approval for the sleeve, but only because i was having liver issues and they needed a path to my liver in case i had more issues? post surgery. so far, no issues and as healthy as i have ever been. much aloha bro!

great job mark! smart to take ur time on the solid foods again. ur body does go into starvation mode when u cut ur diet drastically like that, so it ends up wanting to store more fat for reserves. u definitely? know what ur doing though..i think everyone who goes through a solid weight management program that the hospitals offer should know A LOT about what they're doing. keep it up man, i hope i can make this work as good as u do! much aloha bruddah!

aloha mark! hope u get over ur cold real quick. i just came back from japan and caught a mean cold up there. so hard? to workout when ur sick! i was lucky that we did some major walking and actually lost weight on the 2 1/2 week trip. so i'm down 155 lbs now and weigh 315. the head nurse of the wieght management program usually asks me to speak at the meetings they have for people interested in the surgery. i wish u could speak there because ur an awesome inspiration! keep it up and take care!
