this is not the type of surface the game needs. while i agree the surfaces shouldn't be as uniform as they are, the players are? hardly moving their feet. if the game wants to change it's surfaces, it needs to start with grass.

The discussion was never limited to just Nadal...the majority of players, both aggressive and defensive say the court was slippery. The tournament director admitted that the court needed improvement not because of? color but because it was slippery...if both the director and the players are saying the same thing, why exactly do we doubt that it was slippery?

If Nadal had his way, there would be a two-year ranking system and every court would play exactly like Monte Carlo. You can see how much of a crybaby he seems when not every single court is as slow as molasses. Fed has won on Wimbledon grass serve-and-volleying and? from the baseline, and he has won on red clay, blue clay, fast hardcourt, slow hardcourt, and indoor. Nadal would scrap all of that for slow clay and slow clay-like hardcourt for the rest of the season.

I am not disagreeing with you. Yes, if it were not for hard courts I may not have been a tennis and Fed fan. The argument I'm trying to make is that hard courts represent what is neutral between clay and grass. Clay is way, way too extreme on one side, that is all I'm trying to say. And Nadal is very very good on that surface. Hard courts give all kinds of skill an equal chance, it also rewards? endurance if you're willing to dig in. Even the Wimby grass is behaving like clay these days.

Thanks for posting this clip. I noticed that in this clip, fed hit exactly two backhand slices from the baseline (only two), one on a service return. Having watched the match live, it struck me that he had a firm game plan (play almost always to rafa's? backhand from neutral positions - tips from the djoker, trust his backhand a whole lot more and come in on an approach shot to rafa's backhand - as opposed to the forehand side in aussie open where rafa passed him at will).
