Hello, Yes you can double them. Sometimes I use 4 crochet threads together and count it as one strand. I have also used thin ribbons, cotton string, cotton yarn? and twine! I have been mixing my strands using different things on the same braid like 2 string, 2 ribbon, 2 yarn and 2 other kinds of yarn for a total of 8 strands. Makes some interesting braids that i use as bracelets and necklaces for pendants. It is addicting! Enjoy!

Rosie, this was soooo very helpful for me to? understand how to get a braid started!! I love your necklaces and handmade pendants, beautiful!! Could you please tell how much (length of cord) to make an 18" necklace and a 7 1/2" bracelet, I would hate to get started on a project and come up short or wasting cord. You know I'm a seasoned scrapbooker and have done many tea bag folding projects from "real" tea bag envelopes. I've often thought "there MUST be something I can do with these envelopes". You are so right, the inside is usually printed with a very tight pattern. I've just started card making in ernest and discovered? I need just these very tight patterns. Now I'll have TWO uses for the envelopes. Thanks for your inspiration Rosie. The flower is so pretty.
